Friday April 1st (diary style)
Did not have the best sleep in the world. Woke up around 1pm and went to Walmart with 2 of my roommates on the bus. The weather is FINALLY nice again. It rained for the past 2 days here and apparently having sudden bursts of rain in Florida is perfectly normal. Also, just now starting, all parking operation cast members must wear a bright yellow safety vest while at work (day and night).

On Monday April 4th I turned 20! (WOOOO. Enough said)
Nothing really new to report. A tram crashed the other day at the load zone so that was pretty exciting. Thank God I wasn't driving or spieling on that one when it happened. But I was the next tram on the scene and got to see how it was resolved. (I'll update on that later this week)

I have to get started on writing my work report for EGR393 sometime this week. Hopefully I'll find time to start it and actually give details (everything that I feel like I have not been doing with this blog. Fail)

 Also, I can't believe that its almost summer for everyone back home! I always give a special shout out to any MSU fan I see while at work. GO GREEN. GO WHITE

Some of the things I did these past days..
Worked (as usual)
Monday: Went to Magic Kingdom with some cowokers, which was really fun. Then later that night went to Cool Beans Cafe in the Vista Pavilion! It's a Housing Event where you go and get free coffee, play Rock Band 2, and watch/sing karaoke! Songs would range from Mulan (of course, were at Disney) to Kesha. It was entertaining to say the least.
Tuesday (yesterday): Picked up a shift at work
Planned a trip to Miami with the roommates in late May :)
 ALSO-- I got word (technically, emailed) that I will be able to participate in the Disney's Ultimate EnginEARing Exploration on April 16th! 
WHAT'S COMING UP THIS WEEK
Another Disney Career Series Class called Acing the Interview tomorrow (which reminds me I still need to update my Resume from the last class :X...need to get on that) and then another one on Monday

Blizzard Beach opens up next week! (It's another water park similar to Typhoon Lagoon, but apparently 20x better)

Where do families go when their children are on spring break?-Apparently Disney. By the looks of my schedule, this week is going to be a bit of a challenge. Also, the fact that Daylight Savings Time just happened last night does not help me, or my sleep situation, out too much.

NEWS IN HOUSING

Tomorrow is our apartment’s first cleaning inspection! (They have boards all over Vista when the cleaning inspections are) I was assigned the job to vacuum the apartment before tomorrow. Basically, some members of the housing apartment will come check our apartment and make sure that we have not destroyed it or anything. If the housing team does not approve our apartment as being “clean”, all 6 of us have to pay $25 (yeah, that’s right $25 EACH!!) On the other hand, if our apartment passes with flying colors (which is unlikely), then we would receive the “Clean White Gloves Award” and a box of chocolates.

 Remember a couple of blogs ago when I mention that I was unable to participate in Disney's  Engineering Professional Development Study since the class was full? Well, here is opportunity number 2. 

 

 I am currently filling out the application for it and HOPEFULLY I will be accepted! Disney's Ultimate EnginEARing Exploration is a day-long event held at Epcot open to all Engineering majors who are on the College Program. Here is a quick run-down of what will be happening at the event:

Morning: Engineers from various departments at Disney will guide us through the maintenance areas of three attractions-giving us the insight into the mechanical, electrical/controls, structural/civil/architectural, and industrial engineering involved in creating and maintaining those attractions.

Afternoon: We will work in groups on a new attraction at Epcot and then present the group's design idea to the engineers.

After that, there is the Networking Event (the highlight) where we will have the opportunity to find out what the different types of engineers do on a day-to-day basis and ask them questions that we might have.

Obviously, this will be a HUGE opportunity and I just hope that I will be accepted! Thankfully, Disney has their Disney Career Series classes, which allows participants on the Disney College Program to take a series of courses to help out with this type of an event! (They have 6 courses in total, which include Resume Writing, Acing the Interview, and Networking 101 to name a few).

The deadline for the event is on March 16 so I better get busy with the application! BUT FIRST, it is time to go check out a vacuum for that cleaning inspection.

One of the first things that you probably noticed is that Disney runs on military time. (and yes, it does take me a good 5 minutes to try to convert my schedule from 16:00-23:00 to 4-11pm each week)
The second observation you might have made was the fact that my shifts are, for the most part, all the closing/late night shifts. The College Program participants (or as the other workers call us CPs) all tend to get the later shifts (Seniority is recognized here at Disney).

These past 2 weeks have been full of waking up late and going to bed extremely early in the morning.  Also, my sister managed to fly her way down here and go explore the parks with me this past Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday :).
Another bonus (besides getting into the parks for free) is the fact that we are able to take part in exclusive behind the scenes tours of certain areas/rides in the parks (for free!!) A few days ago I took a tour of the Haunted Mansion and learned about the secrets to some of the rides special effects and history behind it.

And since this blog post is (in my opinion) lacking some information my next blog will post answers to some of the Sample Questions

OF TRANING!! 
Yes, I officially got to take off the "Earning my Ears" tag off from under my name tag last week! Sadly now this means that I will be on my own and won't have a trainer telling me what to do. (Oh, well).

Also, I got my camera cord now! (yayyyyyy) So below is the video of  the show at Cinderella's Castle in the Magical Kingdom. (And sorry for the random flips and talking I decide to do with the camera.)

Also, I just found out today that due to the overwhelming interest in the Engineering Professional Development Study Class I am not able to be enrolled in the class :(  (Oh well, hopefully I can enroll in the Creativity and Innovation class in April)

Training

First of all I would like to apologize for the lack of pictures and videos in this blog. Sadly, I have left my camera cord at home and it is currently being shipped over here as I type.

These past few days have been full of early mornings, training and little to no sleep.

This past Sunday was my first day of costume training. First bit of training was practicing driving the tram.

For those of you who don’t know what the tram is, it is a 170 feet long vehicle (that can hold over one hundred guests) which transports guests from the parking lot to the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC). It also can go a whopping 13 miles per hour. 

Once guests have reached the TTC, they are officially 1 and a ½ miles away from the Magic Kingdom (they either take the monorail or the ferryboat to get there). So, pretty much I was introduced to my new “home” when I first arrived at the TTC.
Before I talk about what the rest of my training days were like, I will briefly cover the jobs that I do in Parking Operations. There are 2 main job types. One of them involves working in the parking lot parking cars and the other involves operating the tram and spieling on the back to guests about safety rules and details about the park. My assessment will be on Friday and if I pass I can officially take off the “Earning My Ears” Tab from my nametag.

Anddd that’s about it—Now back off to the parks! (Once again, enjoying the day off)
